Google Cloud project: Inactive OAuth Redirect URIs and JavaScript Origins

Have you got an email from Google regarding your website’s OAuth and have no idea what it means?

We can help!

So the email we are referring to looks like this:

Hello Google Developer,

We are writing to let you know that you have inactive OAuth redirect URIs and JavaScript origins in your Google Cloud project that are not in compliance with Google’s OAuth URI validation rules.

On July 12, 2021, we will remove all inactive URIs that are invalid.

On September 13, 2021, we will remove all URIs that are not in compliance with redirect URIs and Javascript origins rules (including formerly inactive URIs trying to become active).

What do I need to do to be compliant?

If these inactive OAuth redirect URIs and JavaScript origins are no longer needed, you can remove them from your Google Cloud project. If they remain inactive, they will be automatically deleted after July 12, 2021.

If your app still needs to use these URIs, please update your app and OAuth configuration from the Google Developer Console to use redirect URIs or JavaScript origins that are compliant with the OAuth URI validation rules by September 13, 2021.

The following Google Cloud project(s), which has/have registered OAuth redirect URIs and JavaScript origins without usage for over 90 days, and which will be removed by July 12, 2021:

Project ID: XXXXXXXX

Client: XXXXXXXXXXXXX-jlhfrkl9lf9i.apps.googleusercontent.com

URI: http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?action=updraftmethod-googledrive-auth

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these changes, please review the documentation provided above in this email.

Sincerely,

The Google Developer Team

So what do I do next?

#1 Log in to the WordPress dashboard

To do this, go to www.mydomainname.com/wp-admin/

WP Login

You should then enter your username and password.

Look for anything that could be using Google API or OAuth

ReCapture – Google Drive

Google Drive Connects – a Google Chrome extension that captures all the images, videos, and documents you see on your screen as an image in PNG format. You can then export these files to different formats for later use. It’s simple enough but if it doesn’t work for what you want or need, there are other screenshot extensions available like Awesome

2FATwo-factor authentication (2FA), A majority of internet and cell phone services today offer a two-step security authentication process. This method is typically referred to as dual-factor authentication or just two-step verification.

Google Map – Google Maps is a web mapping service developed by Google. It offers satellite imagery, street maps, 360° panoramic views of streets and houses, real-time traffic conditions

Google Maps API – The Google Maps JavaScript APIs provide a simple way to embed interactive maps in web pages with just a few lines of code.

Cloud Storage API – Google Cloud Storage is a service for storing and accessing data on Google’s cloud.

Other Google Cloud Services – Google’s cloud services include Google App Engine, Google Compute Engine (GCE), Google Cloud DataStore for NoSQL database management and BigQuery for querying large datasets.

#2 Log into your Google Cloud console or developer account

Go to https://console.cloud.google.com/

If you have more than one project select the arrow and match the Project ID with the Project ID on the email.

Gogole Cloud inactive
Google console inactive

Once the correct project is select remove any unused API’s, OAuth or anything else you are not using.

If it turns out that something is broken and your site has lost connection with the Google cloud then reconnect it and make sure it is active so it won’t be deleted on July 12, 2021.

If you need help Google has helped with any Google API or Google Cloud related issue feel free to reach out and we would be more than happy to help.

We would love to hear from just book in a time to talk to us!
